Technicolor Talks Digital at NAB
Technicolor executives participated on several panels at the recent NAB show in Las Vegas.
Technicolor’s chief marketing and technology officer Chris Carey’s panel, “The New Hollywood! A New World of Entertainment,” focused on how digital creation, distribution and presentation are transforming the entertainment industry. Carey and others talked specifically about emerging formats and media, the need to re-purpose content so it can be monetized across various media platforms, and the various digital standards being introduced.
Other executives were part of panels that looked at various evolving digital technologies and issues affecting the industry. Technicolor Digital Intermediates’ Josh Pines was with a group that examined how cinematographers can continue to control their photographic visions with digital cameras. Pines and Kris Kutcka received a 2006 Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for creating a digital archival process. Christian Zak, also with the Technicolor Digital Intermediate Group, participated on a panel focused on digital calibration tools and techniques. And as part of NAB’s digital cinema summit, Nick Mitchell’s panel discussed digital cinema mastering.
Electronic Distribution Services’ Lance Ware also participated on two panels, including one examining the business models for making money from broadband video on the Internet.
