Fox Searchlight's drama thriller, Martha Marcy May Marlene, opened in US theaters October 21st. The film proved to be a hit, taking home awards and commendations at its premiere at Sundance, emerging as one of the hottest films at the festival. The hype continued its crescendo, garnering further prestige at Cannes.
Martha May Marcy Marlene was shot on 35mm on 3-perf. Our involvement spans a variety of services for the feature including the completion of HD Log Dailies, and the completion of the film’s digital intermediate; film out created an output to 35mm. We also provided the release of the video and lab deliverables. Colorist Sam Daley worked on the digital intermediate for Martha Marcy May Marlene. His credits include HBO hit, Mildred Pierce, and upcoming, buzz-worthy HBO mini-series, Girls.
The creative production team who worked on Martha Marcy May Marlene has a long-standing history with Technicolor. Director, Sean Durkin and Cinematographer, Judy Lee Lipes have worked together in the past with our help.
We comped the color-correction for the team’s short, Mary Last Seen that premiered at Sundance 2010 and furthermore, won the “Prix SFR” at The Director’s Fortnight at Cannes International Film Festival that year. We also worked on a variety of commercials with Durkin and Lipes. Martha Marcy May Marlene, Durkin’s first full-length piece, was selected for Sundance’s Institute Screenwriters and Directors Labs in 2010.
The Producer, Antonio Campos, directed After School, a film that Durkin coproduced under Borderline Films, and also had Lipes on board as the DP. Technicolor is proud to have been part of their creative journey.
Durkin, alumnus of NYU’s esteemed Tisch School of the Arts, cofounded Borderline Films, the company responsible for producing the aforementioned films.
Cast members for Martha Marcy May Marlene include Elizabeth Olsen (Martha), Sarah Paulson (Lucy) and John Hawkes (Patrick).
