Research & Innovation: Inventing, Refining and Sharing Technologies
Research and innovation is at the heart of Technicolor’s ongoing mission to provide new products and solutions that serve and enable the continually evolving Media, Entertainment, and Communication industries.
The Technicolor Research and Innovation division is organized to align with the processes of content production such as filmmaking, 3D, animation & VFX, as well as distribution and consumption. It is structured around Exploratory Research and three main Strategic Research Programs:
Research Programs and Exploratory Projects
Each of these programs focuses on key technical challenges: compression, networking, rendering, signal acquisition & processing and content discovery. Projects are targeted toward the foreseeable needs of content creators and content consumption and are complemented by the speculative research of exploratory projects. Projects are designed to address scientific and technical issues that could potentially impact current and future business activities.
Research Community
Technicolor’s researchers keep abreast of the scientific community’s global evolution by immersion in academic research and cooperative programs. These ongoing collaborations with top academic researchers enable Technicolor to create and foster partnerships on the most promising technologies.
Research & Innovation’s Patent Portfolio
In addition, Research & Innovation is a main contributor to Technicolor’s growing patent portfolio that contains more than 40,000 patents and applications derived from more than 6,000 inventions. These patented technologies allow Technicolor to generate significant licensing income, create a competitive advantage and establish new market opportunities and partnerships.
Research & Innovation is dedicated to inventing and developing state-of-the technologies that will improve and invigorate today’s solutions, deliver tomorrow’s innovations and challenge the science of media creation and the consumption of content
