We strive to take part in cooperative programs alongside public and supra-national initiatives as well as major high-tech business partners to share and promote Technicolor’s priorities for research & innovation. We participate in 50+ Standard Development Organizations and are particularly involved in different workshops and groups, using our expertise to contribute to standardization programs that will accelerate the industry’s growth.

In the field of research, emphasis is put on cooperation with educational institutions, public research bodies and other companies (including SMEs and Start-ups) to keep the technology pace. During 2015, 18 cooperative programs (e.g. Previz, UltraHD-4U, UCN) involving academics were running, with European as well as overseas educational institutions and public research bodies. In addition, Technicolor contributes actively to several technology clusters, including at the governance level, where R&D activities are located (e.g. NEM, Images & Réseaux, Cap Digital).

The NEM Initiative is the Horizon 2020 European Technology Platform dedicated to content, dealing with Connected, Converging and Interactive Media & Creative Industries and aiming at driving the future of digital.

The PREVIZ project aims at developing an innovative platform for on set previsualization for visual effects (VFX) film production

The UltraHD-4U project aims at studying and setting up an end-to-end 4K Ultra HDTV chain (broadband and/or broadcast) for use at consumer premises and/or at dedicated show-points.

UCN challenge is how to re-center future connected media services on the user and develop improved content recommendation and content delivery frameworks by taking into account rich user context information.
