Laura’s story

Laura says, “I believe that film is a very important medium in the fact that it can reach people on an emotional level, as well make them see things in a new light and sound is a very important aspect in creating that world and helping the viewer stay in the story.”

Raised in California’s sunny South Bay, Laura graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a B.A. in Recording Arts. Shortly after graduating, she started at Technicolor as a runner, spending her downtime on the mix stages, learning the craft. When a recordist position opened up on one of Technicolor’s broadcast stages, she jumped at the opportunity. After Technicolor Sound moved over to its current facility on the Paramount lot, Laura joined the theatrical team and began mixing full-time. She has now been a great asset to Technicolor’s sound team for over ten years.

Laura has worked on a variety of projects at Technicolor including DopeThe Lazarus Effects, and Spike’s three-part mini-series Tut. She is a huge fan of children’s animated movies and is captivated by Pixar’s ability to create films that appeal to both children and their parents. She would love the opportunity to mix a Pixar film, as well as work on anything that promotes equality and brings social issues to the forefront.

When asked what technology she is most excited to see further developed, Laura explained that “both Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision have been great additions to the movie-going experience. They give mixers more opportunities to help immerse the audience into the story.  It will be very interesting to see how further advances in technology will continue to change how we hear and see film.”

Laura credits her fellow mixers at Technicolor as her artistic influences, feeling fortunate to work alongside some of her role models. “I remember watching their films in college and hoping to be able to meet them one day; it has been a great experience to be able to work and learn from them all.
