What's new:

My research focus is on advanced video acquisition and related processing to provide enriched content to  applications and users. Beyond 2D imaging, plenoptic imaging and light field capture and usage open new domains for innovation.

A collaboration is running with the Munsell Color Science Lab at Rochester Institute of Technology, towards a better understanding of human color perception variability. Involving Yuta Asano, PhD candidate and color science researcher at RIT, the work is based on the excellent work of Abhijit Sarkar dedicated to the “Identification and Assignment of Colorimetric Observer Categories and Their Applications in Color and Vision Sciences”  during his PhD (manuscript available). 

Short Bio:

Laurent Blondé received his M.Sc. degree in optical engineering from the Institut d’Optique, ParisTech, France in 1985. Hired as a research engineer at Thomson Research Labs, he participated in more than a few R&D projects including: Infrared Image Synthesis, Special Effects and Virtual Studio, Display processing, Anti-Camcorder and Color Management for Cinema applications, Color and 3D Perception. Image, color and vision Expert and multi-project Technical Advisor at Technicolor, he likes to be a creative technical leader enriching image processing with Physics and Perception.

Laurent is author and co-authors 70+ invention disclosures and is associate member of Technicolor’s Fellowship Network.

Research interests:

My life in Technicolor is about Color, Depth acquisition and rendering, as well as their perception. My general goal is to better understand how the human observer perceive the world and then propose innovative acquisition solutions, adaptations of video content or display devices for an enhanced user experience.
I am exploring technologies and scientific trends around the following topics:
- Light Field / Plenoptic acquisition with the design and usage of enriched video cameras combining image processing and optics 
- Color perception, with an emphasis on its variability and what could be done in terms of color personalization.
- I also worked on 3D/Depth perception with the goal to understand the differences between natural viewing and 3D viewing on displays, towards immersion and towards naturalness of digital content experiences.
With the support of colleague researchers, PhD candidates and trainees, and setting up focused collaborations I try to be creative and inventive, at least once a day.
