Michael’s story

A graduate of the UCLA Film School, Michael has over 30 years of experience in the Motion Picture Industry. He is credited on over 120 films and has worked regularly with a wide variety of filmmakers including Ivan Reitman, Bennett Miller, Seth Gordon, Betty Thomas, Paul Verhoeven, and McG.

Michael enjoys being part of the Technicolor sound team because the professionals he works with are some of the most respected in the industry, and the facilities here are first-rate. He cites the men and women of the sound community as his artistic influences, explaining that they continue to amaze him with the work they do every day. Whenever he hears a beautiful film soundtrack that includes clear, pleasant dialogue and original, well-chosen sound effects, he is inspired to aim higher on his next project.

When asked what his proudest professional moment is, Michael explains that becoming a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is definitely a career highlight. He also still feels excited whenever he sees his name in the credits of a major motion picture. Michael explains, “that credit represents to me all the work and creativity that my crew and I have put into the project and our contribution in helping to entertaining an audience.”

After years of working on projects with directors who each have their own unique style, expectations, and methods of working, Michael has become skilled at reading each of them, listening to their ideas and hopes for the soundscape of their films, and ultimately, being able to help achieve the sound they desire.

When asked what is the best advice he has ever been given, Michael explains that a famous director once chastised him for even considering missing an important event in his child’s early life to work on his film, scolding “my movie will come and go, but your family is forever!” Michael says, “even though I feel so blessed to work on major motion pictures, it’s important to put your work in a proper perspective.”
