Meet Paul Shubat, Re-recording Engineer/Recording Engineer at Technicolor Toronto.

Paul began his career at Morgan Earl Sound on Yorkville Toronto, 30 years ago. After 2 years he joined Technicolor in the dubbing/layback room and moved up to an assistant engineer position. After about 12 Years of music and advertising work, Paul moved into long form dramatic post-production audio.  He has been engineering and mixing film and television projects for the past 15 years.

Paul has won several awards and earned numerous nominations for his work, though perhaps the biggest moment came when he collaborated on Steve Winwood’s Roll With It, which won the Grammy for the Best Engineered Album of the year.  The award reflected nearly two months of work.  Paul has also been nominated for Golden Reel Award, won an International Monitor Award and has been nominated for a Genie award and 6 Gemini Awards.  He has also worked on projects that have won or been  nominated for  Juno Awards, Gold and Platinum awards, and Video game awards.

As an artist who specializes in audio, Paul says that “It’s all about using your ears. Listening to the client and interpreting their vision.”

Paul’s artistic influences range from the artist Wassily Kandinsky to music producer and recording engineer Andy Johns, and also include filmmakers like Hitchcock, Ridley Scott, Stanley Kubrick and Monty Python.  His favorite film is It’s a Wonderful Life and one of his favorite characters is James Bond.

When not working, Paul enjoys spending time with his family and his dog.
