Technicolor Clients Dominate This Year’s Academy Award Oscar® Nominations.
Academy Awards 2013

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences anointed three films, Thursday morning, as the front-runners for this year’s Oscars for Best Picture: LincolnLife of Pi, and Silver Linings Playbook.  Technicolor served, in various capacities, all three projects, and 6 of the nine films nominated for the year’s Best Picture Oscar.

Director Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln led all films with 12 nominations, closely followed by director Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, that which received 11 nominations.  Director David O. Russell’s “indie” darling, Silver Linings Playbook captured 8 nominations – including nominations in all four acting categories, a feat not seen for the last 31 years.  Spielberg, Lee and Russell all also received nominations for their respective achievements as Best Director.

The nomination for Lee’s Life of Pi for visual effects achievement is particularly sweet for Technicolor’s MPC VFX division – who contributed a large block of shots for the film – along with also being nominated for MPC’s contribution to director Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.  Director Sam Mendes’ smash-hit, Skyfall, garnered achievement in Sound Mixing nominations for Technicolor’s Scott Millan and Greg Russell.

Technicolor clients were also well represented in the coveted Best Cinematography category, with the company handling 2 of the five nominated films, including Janusz Kaminski’s work on Lincoln, as well as Life of Pi, photographed by Oscar-winner Claudio Miranda, ASC.  Further, Technicolor delivered digital intermediate services to 8 films receiving nominations this year.  In all, Technicolor served 19 films nominated this year in varying capacities.
