BAFTA Nominations for 2015

We’re happy to see a number of our favorite projects from last year on the top of this year’s nominations list.

After the buzz created on the release of Birdman, it’s no surprise to see it notch up ten nominations in a number of categories, including Best Film, Director & Cinematography – for Technicolor client Emanuel Lubezki, ASC, AMC. This quirky low budget comedy was finished by Technicolor’s imaging facility in Los Angeles.

The Theory of Everything has also wowed audiences with its warmth, enhanced by Peter Doyle’s colour grading at our London facility, it has been nominated in an incredible ten categories, including Best Film and Outstanding British Film, along with nominations for director James Marsh, and for lead actors Eddie Redmayne and lead actress Felicity Jones.

Our favourite bear, Paddington, is also competing for Outstanding British Film featuring colour finishing by Peter Doyle in our London facility. Also nominated for Adapted Screenplay makes it a wonderful example of how books can be sympathetically adapted to the big screen.

Technicolor is also excited that our visual effects partner company, MPC’s incredible work on Guardians of the Galaxy in the Special Visual Effects category was honored with a nomination – and we hope that Rocket Raccoon can lead them to victory. MPC also worked on the pre viz for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and was the lead house on X-Men: Days of Future Past VFX work.

Lastly, we very proud of the accomplishments of our LA-based sound finishing and editorial teams that contributed to the US “indie” wunderkind, Whiplash that also received a nomination for director Damien Chazelle.

We’d like to extend our congratulations to the nominees, we wish them every luck and also to thank all of our talent who work tirelessly to make the end product of these incredible films of the best quality in the industry.

The BAFTAS will be hosted by the legendary Stephen Fry at The Royal Opera House on the 8 February.
