Boundary-Pushing Talent Pulls In Multiple 2016 HPA Awards

Technicolor wins big as Hollywood Professional Association recognizes the creative talent redefining post-production excellence and innovation.
  • Technicolor and MPC talent win top creative honors for Outstanding Color Grading and VFX.
  • The Mill took home the 2016 HPA Judges Award for Creativity and Innovation.

The winners of the 11th Annual HPA Awards were announced at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles on November 17th, in a ceremony celebrating the multi-talented individuals who provided post-production entertainment services for some of the most successful films, television programs, and commercials released this year.

It’s a night to honor those who labor behind the scenes to enhance the art of storytelling through the common language of visually immersive experiences for audiences around the globe – and some of Technicolor’s industry-leading talent took home top honors.

Technicolor’s Senior Colorist Steven J. Scott won the coveted HPA Award for ‘Outstanding Color Grading – Feature Film’ for his work on The Revenant. This was Scott’s seventh win in this category and his third straight in a row, following wins for Gravity (2014) and Best Picture Oscar winner Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2015).

MPC VFX Supervisors Adam Valdez and Charley Henley, along with Robert Legato, Andrew R. Jones, and Keith Miller, took home the ‘Outstanding Visual Effects – Feature Film’ award for The Jungle Book, which set a new bar in visual effects with its realistic CGI animal kingdom.

In addition to these well-deserved category wins, which are already generating Oscar buzz, Technicolor’s VFX brand The Mill won the 2016 HPA Judges Award for Creativity and Innovation for The Mill BLACKBIRD.® The groundbreaking technology – featuring an adjustable car rig for creating photorealistic CG cars – had previously received the 2016 Cannes Lions Gold Innovation Award.
