Technicolor provides picture and audio post for Grantchester series two.
The new season of Grantchester returns with six episodes on ITV this spring. The crime drama, set in the 1950’s, sees a return of the popular characters of Sidney Chambers (James Norton) and Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green) in a sleepy English village. The duo faces new adversities, and is sure to draw back the 6.6 million fans that watched the first series.

Technicolor London provided picture and audio post for the anticipated new series of Grantchester. The audio was undertaken in Technicolor London’s Lexington Street location. Senior re-recording mixer, Richard Straker, added eerie winds and low undertones that contrasted with the shots of light airy breezes and summer birds in order to reflect the darker edge of the new series. Straker commented that, “We used the iZotope RX plug-in to clean up the tracks and enhance the quality of location recordings”.

Dan Coles, senior colorist, described that the brief was to create a rich, authentic, and elegant look that was sympathetic to the 1950’s era depicted in the series. Using Baselight, Coles opted for a natural feel, accentuating the stronger, dominant colors in the frame and using a high level of contrast throughout. He said, “Subtle changes to overall saturation levels were made depending on what suited the narrative. Vignettes, grades and subtle diffusion gave it a filmic look”.

Grantchester is based on The Grantchester Mysteries, a collection of short stories written by Jamies Runcie.
