Making a Splash Across the Pond: Technicolor’s The Deep Premieres on CBBC

Technicolor’s original series, The Deep, premieres in the UK.

Technicolor’s CG-animated series The Deep is now airing on the BBC’s children’s station CBBC. The underwater adventure series, based on Tom Taylor’s graphic novel series of the same name, is a co-production with Australia-based A Stark Production and Canada-based DHX Media.

The Deep follows the adventures of the Nektons, a family of underwater explorers who navigate the mysterious depths of the ocean, where most of the world lies unexplored and unexplained. Based on the Aurealis Award-winning graphic novel series created by multi-award-winning best-selling comic book author and playwright Tom Taylor, illustrated by James Brouwer, and published by Gestalt Comics, The Deep offers strong family appeal. The first season of the series, which targets children 6 to 12 years old and their families, is comprised of 26 episodes, the last of which are currently being finalized in post-production.

CBBC joins a multitude of broadcast partners, including The Seven Network and ABC3 in Australia (airing in June), Super RTL in Germany, Ketnet in Belgium, NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden, YLE in Finland, and Canada’s Family CHRGD (currently airing Saturdays, and was named their number two show on air).  The Deep was also selected as a choice listing by the Sunday Times the week it premiered.

The Technicolor Animation & Games teams have several properties that they are developing or producing with broadcasters from around the world. In addition to The Deep, our Creative Development team is working on original properties including the superhero comedy series Atomic Puppet and pre-school series Bear, Bud, & Boo, while the Technicolor Animation Productions arm of the business produces famed licensees such as Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog in Sonic Boom (on Cartoon Network in the US, and Gulli and Canal J in France) and the Bagdasarian’s Alvin and the Chipmunks in ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks (on Nickelodeon in the US).
