Sound services for sci-fi feature Dredd

Technicolor’s London facility has provided an array of sound for the sci-fi feature, Dredd

Technicolor’s London facility has provided an array of sound for the sci-fi feature, Dredd, released in the UK on September 7th 2012.

Directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point) and starring Karl Urban (Star Trek, The Bourne Supremacy) and Olivia Thirlby (Juno), Dredd is set in a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner. In the midst of this dark city, a police officer teams up with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

The production, specifically commissioned to Technicolor by Supervising Sound Designer Glenn Freemantle at Sound 24, saw Technicolor Recordist Adam Mendez spend two weeks shooting the Foley tracks with Sound Editor Hugo Adams and Foley artists Jack Stew and Andrea King, to produce the complex array of sound tracks required.

Mendez said: “I’ve collaborated with Glenn and his colleagues on many occasions and was pleased to re-kindle our working partnership on such a prestigious feature project.”

Glenn Freemantle added: ” I like Technicolor because they are very accommodating and they will do anything and everything, and go to any lengths to get the desired output”.

Technicolor’s UK sound facility, out of Perivale, London, counts as recent feature credits An Education, Brighton Rock, Burke and Hare and Chalet Girl, plus the TV dramas The Reckoning and Lewis for ITV.
