Tata Sky renews its trust in Technicolor

Technicolor signs new MediaPlay HD zappers supply contract with India’s leading satellite operator.

Tata Sky, India’s leading satellite operator, has again called on Technicolor to supply set-top boxes for its subscribers. This latest major contract between Technicolor and its long-time customer is for MediaPlay high-definition (HD) zappers. With shipment set for later this year, the deal comes on the heels of a 2011 contract for the supply of standard-definition MPEG4 set-top boxes.

Technicolor has already delivered over five million set-top boxes to Tata Sky, which has a subscriber base of 6.5 million. Michel Rahier, President of Technicolor’s Connected Home division, said, “We’re proud that leading satellite operators such as Tata Sky recognize our strong technological expertise and our ability to bring innovation directly to the heart of the digital home. Having supported Tata Sky’s success for many years, we aim to continue to provide this industry leader with our latest solutions.”

The new contract reinforces Technicolor’s footprint in the Asia-Pacific region, where the Group already holds leading market positions. In addition, it illustrates the Group’s know-how in addressing local technological specificities and its capability to propose competitive cutting-edge services.

Harit Nagpal, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Sky, said: “Technicolor has always displayed an exemplary level of service, and that is why we decided to further strengthen our partnership with this new set-top box contract. Their MediaPlay set-top boxes enable us to extend our product portfolio and strengthen our position in the delivery of HD video.”
