Technicolor’s talented artists worked on several of the most celebrated Academy Award nominated films

Technicolor contributed to sound, color, 3D, VFX and animation production and post-production services to many of this year’s Academy Award nominated films. Our talented professionals worked closely with some of the most renowned directors and cinematographers in the industry, helping ensure that their vision came to life on big screens throughout the world. As a testament to the quality of our production and post-production services, the films we worked on were nominated for: Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Animated Feature Film of the Year, Achievement in Directing, Achievement in Cinematography, Achievement in Film Editing and Achievement in Visual Effects.

For Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, nominated in 11 categories, Technicolor provided a full array of 3D post-production services, including 3D color-science, editorial conform and engineering support for the film’s digital intermediate and film-out, and digital cinema mastering and distribution for both 3D and 2D. Technicolor’s Hollywood-based team also performed the digital restoration of the 1902 short film Le Voyage Dans La Lune footage showcased in the film, which required the making of new prints and digital masters of the poorly preserved source material. Technicolor also produced all the film’s theatrical 3D prints in France. Throughout the past decade, Technicolor has worked with Mr. Scorsese on several award-winning projects, including: Aviator; The Departed, the Rolling Stones’ documentary, Shine a Light, and the HBO series, Boardwalk Empire.

For the French film The Artist, nominated in 10 categories, Technicolor handled 2D film release printing as well as digital cinema and distribution services.  The Artist showcases the digital intermediate talent of Technicolor’s newly acquired Paris-based Duboi, known for their exceptional visual post-production, color and colorization skills.  The film’s director of photography, Guillaume Schiffman recently received the coveted British Academy BAFTA Award for the year’s best cinematography.

For Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, nominated in the Visual Effects category, we provided a comprehensive package including production, post-production, distribution and VFX services. MPC, our visual effects subsidiary, was the lead supplier for the film’s VFX in London, with VFX supervisor Greg Butler and VFX producer Oliver Money delivering 325 shots for the final film in the Harry Potter series.  MPC has the distinction of being the only visual effects provider for all eight of the Harry Potter films.

Technicolor’s Los Angeles film laboratory and post operations handled negative processing and digital dailies on Moneyball, nominated for Best Motion Picture. In addition to having our LA team set the look for the filmmakers and audiences around the world, we had our Montreal facility complete the French theatrical versioning for the film.  Technicolor had previously worked with Moneyball director Bennett Miller on his award-winning film Capote, a biographic picture about Truman Capote. We have also previously worked on several projects with Moneyball cinematographer Wally Pfister, ASC.  Mr. Pfister won the 2010 Academy Award for Achievement in Cinematography and the ASC Award for Best Feature Cinematography for Inception. We are currently working with Mr. Pfister on director Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, for Warner Bros.

Our studio in Bangalore, India provided much of the animation work for Dreamworks' Puss in Boots, nominated for Best Animated Feature Film. In preparation for global distribution, our Anvil sound post-production services in Perivale, England, produced 20 foreign language versions of the film for Paramount Pictures International. Head of Sound, Gareth Bull, lead the Sound Post Production team, which included the sound mixing talent of Richard Straker, Adam Mendez, James Ridgway and Jules Woods.

Technicolor’s theatrical sound re-recording mixer Greg Russell managed sound mixing for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which was nominated for Achievement in Sound Mixing. Our Creative Services team in Hollywood (Sunset Boulevard) and Burbank also provided 3D image processing and film-out, as well as digital mastering and distribution. Greg’s exceptional audio- mixing talent has been recognized with 14 previous Academy Awards™ nominations for Achievement in Sound Mixing for the following films: Salt, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers, Apocalypto, Memoirs of a Geisha, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man, Pearl Harbor, The Patriot, Armageddon, The Mask of Zorro, Con Air, The Rock, Black Rain.
