Technicolor Tops Broadcast Tech Magazine’s List of Post-Production For UK Drama

Technicolor listed as top Post-Production for UK Drama.

Technicolor is leading the pack in audio, grade and online for UK broadcast post production in the Drama sector, according to Broadcast Tech’s yearly facility survey.

The September/October issue focused on the UK’s 30, top-ranking drama series’ and found that Technicolor London is helping create the UK’s most popular television dramas. The top 30 included the following dramas whose post-production was delivered by Technicolor London: Poldark (BBC 1), Cilla (ITV), Silent Witness (BBC 1), Grantchester (ITV), Lewis (ITV), Vera (ITV) and Midsomer Murders (ITV).

In the process of moving from DS to Flame, Technicolor London is set to be fully Flame by the end of 2015. This decision was taken, in part, because of Flame’s VFX capabilities, and because the UK color finishing department is already fully utilizing the system. Head of Broadcast at Technicolor London, Louise Stevenson, explains, “(...) all our online editors are very capable of completing VFX work, and we try to keep the same operator on a show throughout the process, although if it is VFX-heavy, it will be shared. That workflow allows us to work on things simultaneously – it’s all about making the process as seamless as possible.”

The future of broadcast is bright with the British government encouraging more productions to shoot locally in the UK. As audience expectations are higher than ever, there is a natural expectation that high-end broadcast productions will continue as the norm.

Technicolor is extremely proud to be recognized in the survey. For additional details regarding rankings from Broadcast Tech, the full story and survey are available here.
