World Firsts in Ultra HD 4K

Technicolor has an impressive collection of world firsts in Ultra HD 4K solutions from the studio to the home.

Technicolor has always put a strong commitment into delivering next generation experience in video entertainment services and believes in Ultra HD as being a major technology leap for video solutions.

Leveraging Technicolor technology expertise and close partnership with leading chipset vendors, Technicolor has been the first to demonstrate a live End-2-End HD HEVC video workflow with a set-top box during The French Open 2013 – using the HEVC compression technology allowing the Ultra HD 4K service.

That same year, Technicolor partnered with Sky Deutschland at IFA Berlin for live 4K transmission using a 4Kp30 set-top box from Technicolor.

At the CableShow 2014, Technicolor was one of the first vendors to demonstrate 4K resolution at 60 frames per second on a set-top box. Higher frame rate represents an enhancement of picture realism and is well fitted for sports content. Technicolor also supported Sky Deutschland in its end-to-end Ultra HD live broadcast of 2 Bundesliga matches using that same frame rate.

This impressive collection of world firsts in Ultra HD 4K led Technicolor to sign in May 2014 the world’s first 4K set-top box deal with Tata Sky, Indian’s leading DTH service provider.

Building further the foundation of next generation experience, Technicolor announced at CES 2015 its membership in the new UHD (Ultra High Definition) Alliance – to support innovation in video technologies including 4K and higher resolutions, high dynamic range, wider color gamut and immersive 3D audio.

Today, the MediaPlay DSI750 from Technicolor is the first 4Kp60 set-top box deployed in the Indian market right on time before the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
