Paris (France), September 13th, 2013 – Technicolor (Euronext Paris : TCH) and NAGRA, the digital TV division of the Kudelski Group (SIX:KUD.S) today announced a partnership which will leverage Technicolor’s Qeo communication framework to develop innovative applications for OpenTV 5 that enable interoperability with other devices and applications inside and outside of the home. Through this partnership, Technicolor and NAGRA are committed to enhancing consumer’s media experience by bridging the mobile, smart home, communication, social media and video ecosystems.

At IBC, NAGRA and Technicolor will demonstrate how a smarter, contextual parental control application can be deployed by using Qeo to synchronize live, time-shifting and remote content watching approval. This application is the first of a joint application roadmap that will enhance the video experience for services providers and consumers using NAGRA’s OpenTV 5 middleware.

Qeo is a revolutionary communication framework for simple, secure communication between applications and devices. Its peer-to-peer, real-time and very lightweight nature allows for the rapid development of very innovative services by interconnecting devices, platforms and applications of all kinds.

Michel Rahier, President for Technicolor’s Connected Home Division said: “Our strategic partnership with NAGRA to develop Qeo-enabled applications demonstrates the innovative nature of our relationship and our joint commitment to developing next generation digital life experiences.”

“OpenTV 5 offers an extremely flexible and expandable platform anticipating a broad range of connected home scenarios”, said Samir Mehta, Senior Vice President of NAGRA’s Middleware Solutions, “the integration of Technicolor’s Qeo technology is a solid proof point of this flexibility and it clearly opens a new realm of services opportunities for the Pay-TV and digital media markets.”

Qeo specifications and development kits are freely available at www.qeo-app-development.com, using an unencumbered, open license model, allowing everyone to build its own reference implementation. Technicolor is preparing to release an open source version of Qeo, designed to protect the openness of Qeo.
