15 years of leadership in multi-network set-top boxes

Paris (France), 4 February 2010 – Technicolor (Euronext 18453; NYSE: TCH), formerly Thomson, a worldwide leader of services to content creators, has reached the milestone of delivering 100 million digital set-top boxes over multi networks since it entered the market in 1994.

“This is a major achievement for Technicolor and we are all delighted to reach the delivery of our 100 millionth set-top box,” said Frédéric Rose, Chairman and CEO of Technicolor. “The Group has successfully delivered set top boxes to satellite, cable and IPTV service providers right across the world and is poised to support its customers in the future with hybrid solutions for delivering any type of content on demand, designed to enrich the viewer experience.”

Technicolor’s success is largely thanks to the contracts it has won with major clients in a global marketplace. In North America, Technicolor’s first digital satellite STB customer, DIRECTV remains a loyal customer today. In Latin America, Technicolor provides set-top boxes to key players including DIRECTV Latin America and Sky Brazil and Sky Mexico, while in Europe, it has nurtured relationships with leading names including UPC Broadband and News Corp. affiliates such as BSkyB, as well as HOT, in the Middle East, and Astro of Malaysia and Tata Sky in the Asia-Pacific.

For many of its global customers, Technicolor has established long-term relationships and garnered repeat business thanks to its ongoing product evolution for all technology platforms, including digital cable, satellite television, terrestrial broadcasting and IPTV.

Technicolor represents a long track of industry firsts. Among which it can claim are the first hybrid DVB-S/DVB-T receiver (allowing a consumer to watch both conventional terrestrial television and satellite broadcasting through the same set-top box); the first MPEG-4 high definition personal video recorder (PVR: set-top box with integrated digital recording capabilities); the first high definition PVR for the second generation DVB-S2 satellite broadcast standard and the first HD MPEG-4 set-top box with triple play and PVR.
