Thomson, a worldwide leader of services to content creators, is the first manufacturer to offer full, triple-play capable high end home gateways based on the latest chipsets.

High performance platforms include dual concurrent Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet and excellent environmental performance

Paris (France) / CES, Booth #13219, Central Hall (Las Vegas), 7 January 2010 – Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS), a worldwide leader of services to content creators, is the first manufacturer to offer full, triple-play capable high end home gateways based on the latest chipsets. The TG784n and TG797n xDSL gateways are the first to offer comprehensive advanced functionality including fibre and copper connectivity, dual concurrent Wi-Fi channels to separate video distribution and data, and with the TG797n, Dect telephony in a single device.

“While ever-increasing broadband speeds are of course good news, what consumers really want – and what smart service providers will deliver – is a completely integrated solution which puts all communication into one intelligent box,” said  Georges Laplanche, Senior  Vice President,  Connect Division, Thomson. “Thanks to Thomson’s long experience of innovation in home gateways, these exciting new gateways use the power of the latest chipsets to bring all the functionality together with best in class performance and an open software architecture for advanced third party applications.”

The gateways feature a powerful CPU with a hardware accelerator for high performance, allowing them to support better than 100 Mb/s throughputs on fibre as well as ADSL2+ and VDSL broadband feeds. They include a four-port gigabit Ethernet switch and 802.11n Wi-Fi. Optionally the gateways can include dual concurrent Wi-Fi channels (2,4 and 5Ghz), allowing the 5Ghz channel  to be dedicated to in-home wireless video distribution. The TG797n gateway also includes Dect telephone handsets, with multiline capability for voice over IP.

All Thomson consumer premises equipment is now designed to exceed current environmental performance best practice in manufacture, use and disposal. The two new gateways both exceed the latest version of the Code of Conduct (Version 3) for Broadband Equipment on power consumption by more than 20% than the recommended amount.

The TG784n and TG797n will be available in production quantities to network operators
mid 2010.
