Technicolor Joins Champions of Creativity and Technology at Cannes Lions

MPC and The Mill from the Technicolor family of brands celebrate the 65th International Festival of Creativity alongside the industry’s best and brightest.

  • In partnership with MPC, director Ridley Scott will curate the esteemed New Directors’ Showcase.
  • From Augmented Reality to Virtual Production, The Mill’s Angus Kneale will explore the technology that’s changing the industry.

Cannes Lions is the world’s largest festival and most prestigious awards for the creative and marketing global communications, entertainment, design, and tech industries. Now marking its 65th International Festival of Creativity, this year’s Cannes Lions program features a full week of thought leader discussions and networking opportunities – as well as interactive sessions, workshops, and exhibitions – with the industry’s most innovative brands and creative talent.

Technicolor’s presence at this year’s event, which runs June 18-22, includes two exciting opportunities to hear from the VFX family of brands and its partners. Of particular note, in partnership with MPC, the acclaimed director Ridley Scott will curate the 28th New Directors’ Showcase. The showcase is known for its commitment to discovering and supporting the best new directing talent, counting among its alumni such seminal directors as Spike Jonze, Tarsem, and Jonathan Glazer.

As his production company RSA Films celebrates 50 years, Scott will collaborate with MPC in selecting this year’s reel of the most creative new directors, to be presented to an audience of more than 2,300 Cannes Lions delegates in the Grand Auditorium at the Palais des Festivals. MPC has worked regularly with the director, most recently on All the Money in the World, Alien: Covenant (and Alien: Covenant In Utero), The Martian (and The Martian VR Experience). “We’re delighted to partner with Ridley for this year’s NDS,” said MPC CEO Mark Benson. “The opportunity to hear directly from one of the world’s greatest creative minds on the next generation of creative talent makes the 2018 showcase one not to miss."

Another highlight is the timely topic to be covered by Angus Kneale, Chief Creative Officer at The Mill in New York. In a talk titled Tech That’s Changing the Industry (Friday, June 22, 12:30PM; Interactive Stage, Palais 2), Kneale will explore the impact that new technology, such as Augmented Reality and Virtual Production, is having on the creative and advertising industries. By changing the way content is created and distributed, this new technology is enabling brands to stay relevant, engaging, and at the forefront of innovation.
