Do We Really Need 10G Speeds?

Today, more and more households can benefit from a super-fast 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) fiber internet connection. Do you think this is amazing speed? Wait for 10 Gbps…

Fiber 1G, which means a speed of 1,000 megabytes per second, is 10 to 100 times faster than copper lines. But isn’t 1G or 2G more than enough? In fact, it is important to specify 2 points. First, we refer here to theoretical speeds. Depending on where users are, and how their home are connected, they may just have a downstream speed of 200, 400, 500…. Mbps . They may never get 1G. And second, even if we think 1G speed is very fast, we can’t really evaluate the satisfaction ultra-fast speeds deliver until we have experienced it in real life. To put it into context, if we compare the download speed difference between a 1G and 10G connection when downloading any battle game for example, the result is clear: this process takes several minutes with 1G and only a few seconds with 10G: nearly instant access!

When users must wait 5 or 6 minutes to download or upload something it is NOT the same as when they simply don’t have to wait. Feeling the instantaneity of an action provides a lot of satisfaction, especially if the user is working from home and having to share large files between devices and colleagues, or if they are downloading several movies before traveling. Saving time allows for less monopolization of computer resources, thereby alleviating concerns about your work and having to constantly check the status of the download bar!

Having an ultra-fast internet connection is becoming more of a necessity than a luxury. 10G technology is an important step for hundreds of millions of people worldwide as they move into the metaverse and enjoy more virtual work and entertainment spaces.
