Principal Scientist

Imaging Science Lab Researchers

I have received the Dipl.-Ing. degree from the ENST Bretagne and the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Rennes I (INRIA labs) in 1991.

After 2 years in a software and computing services company, I joined Thomson in 1994. From 1994 to 2000, I have participated as research engineer to several projects related to video encoding algorithms and the development of a digital satellite set-top-box. From 2000 to 2011, I have led several research projects in link with standardization: MPEG-4 AVC, MPEG-4 SVC, HEVC. From 2011 to 2013, I have been with Canon Research, where I have actively participated to the HEVC standardization activities. I am now working in Technicolor as leader of a research team focusing on video formats and coding.

Projects:

Since Oct 2013 - Technical Area leader at Technicolor

  • In charge of the Video format and Coding team

From 2011 to 2013 – Principal Scientist at Canon Research

  • HEVC standardization
  • Technology intelligence (animation of experts network, academic contacts)

From 2000 to 2011 Project leader & Technical Expert at Technicolor Corporate Research

  • 2007-2011 Exploratory project on Next Generation Video Coding
  • 2002- 2007 MPEG-4 SVC (Scalable extension of MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 standard)
  • 2002 MPEG-4 AVC

1994-2000 R&D Engineer at Thomson Corporate Research, France

  • 1994 to 98 MPEG-4 Visual (part 2 of MPEG-4 standard)
  • 1998-1999 MPEG-2 software encoder development

1999-2000 Digital satellite Set-top-box

Research interests:

Expert in digital video processing

  • video coding (MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Visual, AVC/H.264, SVC, HEVC, wavelet coding)
  • video standard expert (MPEG and ITU video)
  • video analysis (segmentation, motion estimation and analysis)
