Mark Aitken, SVP Sinclair Broadcast Group, explains how Technicolor ITM (Intelligent Tone Management) is used to enable HDR on Sinclair’s stations that will reach more than 80% of the american public by the end of 2021.
The ATSC 3.0 panel, during virtual CES 2021, was the opportunity for representative of market leaders to explain how they see Next Gen TV deployments in the US, from a service standpoint as well as from an end-user point of view. During this panel, Mark Aitken, SVP Sinclair Broadcast Group, explained how Sinclair already launched more than 15 stations with Next Gen TV service to date and is targeting to reach more than 80% of the american public by the end of 2021. As explained by Mark, along with all of the flexible services offered by ATSC 3.0, another important element is to also offer high quality HDR services. This is what Sinclair is already proposing on at least one service per station so far, using the Technicolor ITM solution for up-conversion and the SL-HDR1 standard to distribute HDR through the enhancement stream.
