“Pay-TV operators can now propose new interactive services, broadening the reach of their live video offers and placing ISPs in a favorable position towards third-party OTT services.” – Fabien Battini, Technicolor

In the old world, Pay-TV operators were traditionally focused on broadcast and linear TV. The introduction of Subscription Video-on-Demand (SVoD) and Over-The-Top (OTT) services have had a strong impact on operators’ business models. Initially considered as a threat for the Pay-TV industry, OTT services quickly moved from “pure competition” to “the next must-have apps” for the   consumer – with joint business model agreements between OTT giants and Pay-TV operators.

This whitepaper addresses the key technological and business challenges of live video streaming and highlights how Technicolor and Broadpeak, using M-ABR and CMAF technologies embedded in the set-top box, can deliver the entertainment experiences consumers are looking for. End-users are now able to seamlessly access their favorite content in real time, from any device, regardless of the geographical location and the number of people who connect simultaneously to the same content.
