Ruby, the new Technicolor Connected Home set-top box (STB) powered by Android TV, integrates Google services and Netflix for network service providers (NSPs) operating in emerging economies.

Technicolor, known as Vantiva, creates new opportunities for NSPs to bring Google services like the Google Assistant, YouTube, Google Play Music, Google Play Movies and the Google Play Store as well as Netflix to consumers within the HDMI1 environment in a cost-effective manner. Ruby is an open solution that keeps subscribers engaged in service provider-managed environments. This offering is of special importance to NSPs expanding their presence – and range of services – in Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Europe.

Technicolor is already working with a number of NSPs to bring this product to market by early 2020.

“Making Google services and Netflix available on the Ruby STB provides many benefits to both NSPs and the content providers. For the NSP community, the integration accelerates the time to market and reduces the risk and cost of making Google services and Netflix content available to consumers within an environment that they manage. Google services benefit by providing more consumers around the world with a new, convenient and high-quality way to access their content,” said Brian Jentz, Sr. Director Video Product Unit, Technicolor Connected Home.

“With Ruby, NSPs receive the benefit of working with the most experienced team in the industry. Technicolor is the number one Android TV STB provider and has implemented Netflix certifications on over 25 NSP devices,” concluded Jentz.

This is the latest demonstration of Technicolor Connected Home’s commitment to bringing to market open platform technologies that elevate NSP access to innovation while ensuring that consumers receive the highest quality experience. Helping NSPs deliver seamless connectivity and premium entertainment experiences to consumers is the ultimate goal. This is achieved by creating best-in-class CPE and partnering with the most ingenious companies in the connected home ecosystem.
