The Deep Adds Treasure Trove of Interactive Fun As Season 2 Launches on Netflix

Along with new episodes, Technicolor and partners launch mobile gaming and location-based interactive experiences – so kids can solve mysteries of The Deep.

  • Now releasing on Netflix in the US, Season 2 of The Deep is already the highest rated show for its age group in the UK, according to Gizmodo.
  • The Deep: Sea of Shadows mobile game engages kids to unravel a mystery corrupting the sea and restore peace to the ocean. Downloads available via iOS and Android.
  • Through interactive experiences at Sea Life aquariums, kids discover amazing ocean stories alongside favorite characters from the show.
  • Technicolor’s The Deep is a co-production with A Stark Production (Australia) and DHX Media (Canada).

As the animated underwater series The Deep launches its second season on Netflix, kids have even more reason to get excited – a veritable deep sea treasure of cross-promotional adventures. Not only is there a new mobile action-adventure game based on the show, but Technicolor has partnered with Merlin Entertainments Group to bring branded, interactive family entertainment experiences inspired by The Deep to over 20 participating Sea Life aquariums in the UK and Germany.

“We can’t think of a better way to kick off the show’s new season and get fans engaged with the brand in an authentic way than with our promotion at Merlin Entertainments’ Sea Life aquariums,” said Technicolor’s Pam Kunick-Cohen, Head of Brand Management, Licensing and Merchandising.

The Deep inspires interest in creatures of the ocean, their habitats and how we interact with them, which is why we are delighted to be involved in this venture,” added Cheska Bennett, Head of Marketing for Midway U.K. and Ireland at Merlin Entertainments.

While kids can visit Sea Life aquariums to solve the mysteries of The Deep, there’s also another way for them to unravel its secrets. In conjunction with Season 2, DHX Interactive has released The Deep: Sea of Shadows, the show’s first mobile game tie-in – available in the App Store and Google Play for iOS and Android mobile devices.

What’s next for The Deep? Academy-Award winning SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment is working with Technicolor on an in-theatre, immersive 3D experience enhanced with 4D special effects such as vibrating seats, bubbles, and water spray. Technicolor Animation will provide the 3D CG animation on the project, called The Deep: Mystery of the Ancient Amulet, with VP Animation and Creative Head Steven Wendland serving as creative lead, director, and executive producer. A Stark Production and DHX Media will also be contributing to the production.
