Eight Cannes Film Festival Selections Feature the Work of Mikros

The diversity of films Mikros worked on spans major festival categories including Directors’ Fortnight and la Semaine de la Critique.

  • Mikros teams provided VFX on Aline, The Voice of Love; Mon Legionnaire; Robuste; Olga; and Piccolo Corpo – combining mastery of technology and technique with expertise in storytelling.
  • Mikros also provided VFX, as well as post services, for Les Olympiades, Animal, and Leos Carax’s eagerly-awaited Annette – which will open this year’s festival.

The 74th season of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival will take place from July 6 -17 this year.  The eagerly-awaited event, among the first as pandemic restrictions begin to be lifted, will more than ever be counted on to draw attention to and raise the profile of selected films, independent filmmakers – and the film industry worldwide as it celebrates cinema at an international level.

Technicolor’s Mikros is proud to have worked on eight of the feature films that have been selected for the various festivals at this year’s edition of Cannes – including many with female directors.

The team at Mikros Liege provided VFX and post-production services on Annette, director Leos Carax’s first film in English premiering internationally at Cannes when it opens the festival on July 6. Set in contemporary Los Angeles, Annette tells the story of Henry (Adam Driver), a stand-up comedian, and Ann (Marion Cotillard), an internationally renowned singer. In the spotlight, they are the perfect couple: healthy, happy, and glamorous. But their lives are changed with the birth of their first child, Annette, a mysterious girl with an exceptional destiny.

The Mikros team in Paris provided VFX and post-production services for Jacques Audiard’s Les Olympiades. The film in black and white tells the story of the multiple loves of its four main characters in the 13th district of Paris.

With environmental protection top of mind these days, a selection of films on the climate and environment has been chosen for this year’s Cannes Festival. One of these is Animal – directed by Cyril Dion and produced by Capa Studio – which warns about the extinction of species. This educational tour of the world, seen through the eyes of two committed teenagers trying to explain the collapse of biodiversity and find concrete solutions, is an awakening of conscience. VFX and post-production were completed by Mikros Paris.

Additionally, Mikros teams provided VFX for Aline, The Voice of Love – directed by Valérie Lemercier, produced by Rectangle Productions – and inspired by the life of singer Céline Dion.

Mon Legionnaire – directed by Rachel Lang and having its world premiere at the 53rd Director’s Fortnight – features VFX by Mikros Liege.

Among the 60th Semaine de La Critique film selections, Mikros provided VFX services for:

  • The opening film Robuste – directed by Constance Meyer
  • Olga – directed by Elie Grappe
  • Piccolo Corpo – directed by Laura Samani
