MPC wins BAFTA Award

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 wasn’t just the culmination of a brilliant series of films based on J. K. Rowling’s ingenious books; it was also a cinematic triumph both visually and in story-telling. MPC contributed 325 shots to the final film, and were essential to bringing the magic of the final book to life in vivid detail. 

The awards were held at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden, where Visual Effects Supervisor Greg Butler accepted the BAFTA award for Special Visual Effects on behalf of the talented team at MPC. 

MPC worked closely with the film’s VFX Supervisor, Tim Burke, bringing their talents to bear on number crucial scenes throughout the finale, including the epic battle between Harry and Voldemort, which featured the two wizards fighting in flight, their faces blending into one, and a close-up shot of Voldemort’s wand cracking as it defies him. MPC also worked on 6000 Death Eaters attacking Hogwarts as well the stone knight armies and the CG environments and fire effects in The Room of Requirements. Other notable contributions included Voldemort’s slithering snake Nagini, work on the giants’ faces, a number of explosive wand effects, and the destruction of the harrowing Nagini Horcrux and the Diadem Horcrux. 

Congratulations to everyone on the MPC team who worked on the entire Harry Potter series over the last decade. The BAFTA award for MPC’s contribution to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is a true testament to the skill, hard work, and dedication of the artists who helped bring this incredible film to an unforgettable end.
