RDK All Access (Networks): DOCSIS, DSL, PON and Beyond How Industry Consolidation Created a Need to Support Multiple “Last Mile” Topologies

Open source access technologies such as RDK-B are enabling network service providers to deliver new value-added services to their subscribers with increased efficiency and speed.

It represents a major break with legacy practices and proprietary technology strategies.

In the past, providers interested in adding new features or services on customer premises equipment (CPE) through a third-party would encounter high levels of time-consuming efforts to navigate and coordinate activities among vendors and operators. Adding further to the burden of operating in a proprietary environment, network service providers (NSPs) would also have to establish separate development and testing operations for different access technologies, including: fiber, DOCSIS, DSL and others.

The open nature of RDK-B offers the entire industry -- from cable, to telco to satellite operators -- an opportunity to leverage a single platform that enables providers to test solutions once and then implement and deploy services throughout the entire ecosystem.

Faster Time to Market Requires New Strategies

This white paper explores critical elements that NSPs should focus on as they integrate RDK-B into their go-to-market. It explores how RDK-B:

  • Contributes to the growth of DOCSIS, and can help expand the growth and capabilities of other access technologies including DSL, fiber (PON).
  • Supports the current trends of mergers and consolidation by leveraging the development of features and services across multiple access technologies.
  • Enhances and accelerates the delivery of new revenue-generating services to consumers.
