Technicolor Creative Studios Picks Up Major Award Nominations for VFX

With awards season in full gear, Technicolor teams are honored to be nominated as they continue to push the envelope for outstanding visual effects.

On the heels of winning two GENIE Awards at the 2022 Paris Digital Images Summit (PIDS Enghien) – for Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel (Best Environment) and Around the World in 80 Days (Best Visual Effects in a TV Series) – Technicolor Creative Studios has racked up a number of another nominations for some of the industry’s most prestigious awards, including the BAFTAs, Césars, Critics Choice, and Visual Effects Society (VES) awards.

BAFTAs

The MPC team received a BAFTA nomination for Special Visual Effects for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe. Read about their incredible work here. The BAFTA awards will be held on March 13.

César Awards

This year Académie des César introduces a visual effects category, and MPC has scored three of the five first-time nominations! The nominations come for Aline, Annette, and Lost Illusions, which are also the three most nominated films, with 10, 11 and 15 nominations respectively. The César Awards are being held on February 25.

Critics Choice Awards

MPC picked up a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Visual Effects for Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley, which received a total of eight nominations including Best Picture and Best Director. The awards will be held on March 13.

Visual Effects Society (VES)

Technicolor Creative Studios received a total of nine nominations for the 20th Annual VES Awards, a highlight of the year for the VFX community celebrating their creative skill and technical achievements. Recently integrated under the Moving Picture Company (MPC) brand – forming the largest suite of VFX studios serving the feature film and episodic market globally – MPC/MR. X have picked up three VES nominations:

Both The Last Duel and Nightmare Alley were nominated for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature.

Additionally, the team’s work on ‘Jeff’ the robot from Apple TV+’s Finch received a nomination for Outstanding Animated Character in a Photoreal Feature.

Recently uniting under The Mill brand to create the world’s largest VFX Studio for the Advertising & Brand Experience industries, The Mill/MPC/Mikros MPC global teams have together secured six nominations on the VES shortlist. The nominations come for groundbreaking brand campaigns they worked on for Smart Energy, Lego, ING, Verizon, France Telévision and Hôtel de la Marine.
