Technicolor Ranks Among Top Global Licensors

For the first time in the company’s history, Technicolor is among the top 50 on the list of the world’s top licensors in the annual report published by License! Global Magazine. Technicolor earned the #44 spot on the 2014 list, which was released earlier this month.

License! Global’s annual list is the most comprehensive guide to the world’s largest licensors, which collectively in 2014 represented $259.9 billion in retail sales of licensed merchandise worldwide. The report provides retail sales data and trends for licensors in the entertainment, sports, fashion/apparel, corporate, art and non-profit sectors.

Our brand licensing programs are growing steadily. We posted $1.5 billion in retail sales of licensed properties in 2014. This figure includes our brands RCA, Thomson, Proscan, Victor and HMV (limited), Nipper & Chipper, NordMende, Saba, and Ferguson. Our key retail partners include Walmart, Amazon, Kmart, Best Buy, Sears, Sam’s Club, Carrefour, Darty, Jumbo, Staples and OfficeDepot.

One of the factors for our successful growth in this area is international expansion. The RCA, Thomson and Proscan properties – among others – are key examples of this effort, with license agreements in North America, Latin America, BRIC and EMEA countries.

Strategic marketing and branding initiatives also play a part in the rise. The RCA brand launched a new Made for Moments campaign at the international Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this past January, capitalizing on RCA’s strong American brand legacy and the concept of affordable innovation. The licensed categories under the RCA brand include televisions, tablets, smartphones, appliances, laptop computers and home telephones and VOIP for both the retail and B2B markets.

In addition, our Thomson brand partnered with selected licensees in a large spectrum of consumer electronics categories that include televisions, audio/video products and accessories, phones, tablets, IT products, home automation, set-top-boxes, home appliances, green energies and lighting.

To continue our growth trend in retail sales of licensed properties, we plan to expand into even more product categories such as LED lighting, 4K televisions, Chromebook computers,  innovative appliances, and more tablet and smartphone models. We’re also continuing to enter new geographies, and expanding efforts to penetrate the Indian and Chinese market.

Plus, we’re always working to enhance our product placement across retail accounts, and to introduce new products through effective marketing strategies and product innovation.

Please join us in celebrating this significant achievement for Technicolor. We’re committed to bringing value and market differentiation to all our brands; and are delighted to be ranked among the world’s top licensors.
