Technicolor is delighted to unveil its involvement in Coen brothers’ comedy film, Gambit, scheduled for release in the UK & Ireland by Momentum Pictures on November 21st 2012.

Gambit, produced by Mike Lobell (Honeymoon In Vegas, It Could Happen To You, Striptease, The Freshman), directed by Michael Hoffman (One Fine Day, A Midsummer Night’s dream) and written by the Coen brothers (True Grit, Fargo) tells the story of an art curator who decides to seek revenge on his abusive boss by conning him into buying a fake Monet.

Technicolor provided the DI, Mastering, DC, Printing and Filmout for the feature, which stars Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, Love Actually) as Harry Dean, Cameron Diaz (There’s Something about Mary) as PJ Puznowski, Alan Rickman as Lionel Shabandar (Harry Potter, Sweeney Todd) and Tom Courtenay as The Major (Quartet, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner).

Gambit, shot on Arri Alexa in and around London, was completed in summer 2012 using Autodesk Lustre by Technicolor Colourist Paul Ensby. The grade was attended in London by Hoffman, DP Florian Ballhaus and Editor Paul Tothill.

Ensby said: “The images were mainly set to have plenty of depth and information in the shadow areas, particularly as a lot of the film is set at night.

“Monet’s dusk and dawn paintings also feature prominently and we took great care in maintaining the correct amount of colour and shadow on these reproductions throughout the feature.”
