Telstra Upgraded to Smart Modem Gen 2 With New Hybrid Gateway from Technicolor

First hybrid modem with 4G voice backup from an Australian Telco will boost the broadband experience for homes across the country.

Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications and information services company, has launched the Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2. The modem uses the latest hybrid technology to boost the home broadband experience for households across Australia.

The first hybrid modem from an Australian Telco to also provide voice backup for customers on the nbn in Australia, the Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 now includes VoLTE support, alongside mobile data backup. Customers now have peace of mind that they have voice failover for home phone calls in the event of a service disruption.

With 4G connectivity via Telstra’s mobile network, all new nbn customers – whether they are moving homes, setting up an entirely new fixed connection, or switching over to the nbn network – will be connected within minutes of plugging in the device at home.

The redesigned Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 is sleeker and more stylish. It fits in the living space unobtrusively and helps maximize Wi-Fi coverage and quality.

Mercedes Pastor, Head of the CPE Business Unit, Connected Home at Technicolor, said: “The new hybrid gateway is designed to improve the broadband experience for Australian users. Telstra and Technicolor have worked together in bringing smarter futureproof solutions to the Australian market and will endeavor to continue enabling a more reliable and innovative customer experience in the years to come.”
