Vera returns to ITV 1 with post production services by Technicolor

Technicolor post production team is pleased to work with ITV Studios for the second series and four new stand alone films of the hit crime thriller.

Brenda Blethyn OBE stars and makes a welcome return as the refreshingly down to earth Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope in the second series for ITV, based on the novels by bestselling crime writer Ann Cleeves.

Haunted by her Demons, Vera is an empathetic and courageous detective who solves some of the toughest crimes in Northumberland and Newcastle. Sergeant Joe Ashworth, played by David Leon is Vera’s right hand man and long suffering trusted partner. Together they solve cases with a determined gusto.

Technicolor provided full On Location services for the project, with the help of a digital Lab built into a small truck; it enabled us to move efficiently and quickly alongside the main Production. Technicolor captured a full archive of R3D files to both a location RAID and transport drives, which were sent back to the facility. Once archived a full suite of deliverables were created including full 422 ProRes editorial copy for FCP that was delivered each evening.

Back at Technicolor Soho all rushes were archived to LTO tape and then the full VFX delivery, conform, grade and online could be completed with live media saving time and money.

The series is set against the stunning Northumberland landscape. Senior colorist Dan Coles completed the grade using Autodesk’s Lustre. Much of the magical cinematic atmosphere in Vera is from the amazing landscapes – “whenever possible we used the grade to enhance this natural beauty. We created a rich layer of contrast and enhanced the warmer colors in the spectrum. Depth was added to skies using grads, shapes and subtle vignettes.”
