Technicolor’s Powerplay on Goon: Last of the Enforcers

Technicolor teams in Montreal and Toronto give Canadian cult hockey sequel the home advantage.

Seann William Scott, reprising his role of minor league hockey enforcer Doug Glatt from the Canadian cult hockey classic Goon, returns to the ice in Goon: The Last of the Enforcers. Sidelined by injuries that come with the job – the enforcer or "goon’s" role is to retaliate when the opposition engages in dirty or violent play – Doug is thrust back into action when his arch nemesis is made captain of his newly reunited team.

The sequel, which was shot in Ontario, leveraged Technicolor’s presence in both Toronto and Montreal, Québec. Dailies were completed at Technicolor Toronto; then the sound mixing, Foley, and complete picture post-production services – including final color finishing – seamlessly transitioned to the Technicolor Montreal location. In fact, Senior Colorist Nico Ilies worked right alongside award-winning cinematographer Paul Sarossy to complete the DI color finishing.

“Working with Technicolor on Goon: Last of the Enforcers ensured that we were able to achieve the highest quality version of the film,” said producer David Gross. “Being in the capable hands of the sound and color teams in Toronto and Montreal was a dream collaboration as their talent and experience clearly translated to every frame of the final product.”

The sequel marks the directorial debut of Jay Baruchel, who wrote and starred in the original Goon, which received three nominations at the first-ever Canadian Screen Awards.

The film is a Québec-Ontario co-production with No Trace Camping and Caramel Films and is being distributed by eOne.
