Technicolor is home to the world's premiere portfolio of visual effects brands, services, and creative innovations. With locations that span the globe, and service offerings tailored to the specific creative and storytelling needs of each project, we power premium content. Our diverse family of VFX brands includes: MPC, The Mill, MR. X, Mikros, and Technicolor Visual Effects. Each studio has their own unique approach to help storytellers create out of this world experiences.
Innovations in VFX
Innovation begets breakthroughs in storytelling and perhaps there’s no better example than Technicolor. From color in films, to stunning photo-realistic visual effects, innovation is the engine that drives Technicolor’s excellence in storytelling.
One example of superior innovation from the Technicolor family of brands is The Mill’s “Blackbird.” Blackbird has transformed the way automotive advertising is created. Based on the rig designed by The Mill, automotive spot ads can be shot at any time, in any location, and without the need of an actual car that is very likely still under wraps. A combination of high dynamic range (HDR) imagery and 3D laser scanning generates a virtual version of the environment, producing 100% realistic rendering.
MPC's theatrical division again raised the "innovation bar" with its stunning virtual Rachael character in Blade Runner 2049...considered by many to be the pre-eminent VFX sequence from 2017.
Mr. X produced its most stunning VFX for director Guillermo del Toro's global hit, The Shape of Water, through its integrated creature-character work.
Mikros-MPC delivered stunning effects work for last year's Lacoste campaign, premiered during the French Open tennis tournament.
These are just a few examples of our brands' commitment to finding innovative solutions for our clients.
With the rapid advancements in computer processing power, innovative solutions for front-end planning, pre-visualization, and the early "on-set" management of visual effects ensure greater creative control and cost-containment.
Technicolor and its VFX brands are committed to continually developing state-of-the-art tools for the front-end of projects as well as finishing tools for color-grading and delivery.
Whether a monster, a cuddly animal, or a photo-realistic human, creature creation is a central facet of the entertainment landscape and a big part of the storyteller’s creative palette. Technicolor and its award-winning portfolio of brands can tackle any creature creation need required for theatrical, broadcast, animation or gaming.
Most notably by way of its Oscar®-winning visual effects work for Life of Pi and Disney's The Jungle Book, MPC has established itself as one of the world’s leading producers of creature / character animation and effects.
