Jordan Peele’s horror film Nope with VFX from MPC & animated posters from The Mill

August 20, 2022

This Summer, Jordan Peele returned to the big screen with his latest horror film, Nope. Discover how two of our creative studios were involved in this project in their own way.

MPC

Jordan Peele’s extraterrestrial spectacle Nope has a secret you may not know about: the sky itself is a digital recreation. And among the roughly 700 effects shots in the film, VFX supervisor Guillaume Rocheron admits it’s one of the most rewarding as “most people don’t realize they’re looking at a giant visual effect.”

Guillaume Rocheron joins The Credits to talk about the creation of the spectacular alien creature, explaining how the Nope VFX team set out to make the blue ether a haunting character, one indicative of the dooming waters in Spielberg’s 1975 thriller Jaws. “Jordan said if we do our job well, the audience, after seeing the movie, will look at the sky differently. You are going to look at the clouds and have to be scared,” Rocheron tells The Credits.

The Mill

The creative team at The Mill were tapped to produce stylized motion posters to support the excitingly mysterious marketing campaign surrounding the release.

The film’s official Twitter account shared animated versions with each character moving into their respective poses but shot from a high angle. Though the posters give nothing away regarding whatever mysterious object the characters observe, the trailer suggests it’s some kind of extraterrestrial threat and a big one at that.
